StainShield-15™ - Frequently Asked Questions
What is StainShield-15™?
StainShield-15™ is a technologically advanced sealer that is used to protect granite from staining due to common household liquids while allowing the stone to breathe and preserving its natural color.
How does StainShield-15™ work?
StainShield-15™ uses revolutionary technology to anchor the sealer to the stone surface matrix through a chemical reaction. This means that the sealer and the surface will have a strong bond requiring high energy to break down. The sealing of the natural stone comes from changing the capillarity structure of the surface which changes the surface tension.
What is the difference between StainShield-15™ and common granite sealers?
Traditional sealers anchor to the stone surface through electrostatic or Van Der Waals forces that are not stable and relatively weak compared to normal chemical bonds. This means the energy required to break down this interaction is much lower than the bonding force of a chemical reaction. The sealing function for these common sealers comes from closing or reducing the porosity by placing a polymeric layer of material.
The surface interaction of anchoring by chemical reaction marks the difference between the long-term protection of StainShield-15™ and other standard sealers that only provide short-term protection.
How long will StainShield-15™ provide protection for my granite countertop?
StainShield-15™ has been scientifically engineered to provide the best protection for granite against staining. StainShield-15™ will provide stain protection for at least 15 years.
Will certain cleaning agents break down StainShield-15™?
When cleaning your contertop, in order to provide 15-year stain protection, abrasive or acidic household cleaners are to be avoided. Please see the Care and Maintenance information for full details.
Can StainShield-15™ be used on existing countertops?

No Surface is Indestructible
As with any surface, TrustPoint™ Granite can be damaged by exposure to acid chemicals and some solvents. Do not use products containing trichlorethane or methylene chloride, such as paint removers or furniture strippers. Avoid chemicals containing high acidity (low PH levels) and organic acids. In the event of accidental exposure to any of these damaging products, thoroughly rinse with water as soon as possible.
